Learning outcomes

The course aims at providing students methodologies and analysis tools to interpret, systematize, engineer and re-engineer structures and operational mechanisms within different organizations. The adopted theoretical approach refers to the main organizational theories, i.e. Transaction Cost Theory, Agency Theory, Contingency Theory, Institutional Theory and Knowledge Base View Theory.
With this course we intend to offer students an organic and complete perspective about topics regarding organization design both at intra-organizational and inter-organizational level.
Additional topics are Decision Making and the role of Information and Communication Technology in organizational design and in Decision Making processes.

In addition to the frontal lessons during the course, students will be able to analyze and discuss case studies.
To complete the training course will be invited to witness some experts who are actually leaders at national and international level.
Throughout the academic year, there is also an individual reception service handled by the teachers, at the times indicated on the web pages (no need to set a specific appointment) and constantly updated.
The contents of the textbooks, as well as lessons and exercises held in the classroom, are part of the program.
The program and study materials are the same, regardless of the frequency to the lessons.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists of a written test based on open questions.
The questions want to verify the level of knowledge acquired by the student about the issues presented during the classes. At the same time questions are studied to test the ability of the students to interpret the major issues related to the macro and micro design of organizations.
The test wants to control:
- the knowledge of the topics discussing during the lessons or presented in the program, with particular attention to their application and methodological aspects;
- the ability to apply logical schemes to the various organizational design issues, with particular attention to process-related issues.
- the depth and breadth of the knowledge gained;
- the property of language;
- the ability to use the techniques and tools of the course.
The final evaluation, which takes into account any activities (case studies) carried out during the course, is expressed in 30ths.
The students who have completed the case will be recognized from 2 to 4 points (in 30) in relation to the effort devoted in deepening the case.
