Learning outcomes

The course aims at providing students methodologies and analysis tools to interpret, systematize, engineer and re-engineer structures and operational mechanisms within different organizations. The adopted theoretical approach refers to the main organizational theories, i.e. Transaction Cost Theory, Agency Theory, Contingency Theory, Institutional Theory and Knowledge Base View Theory.
With this course we intend to offer students an organic and complete perspective about topics regarding organization design both at intra-organizational and inter-organizational level.
Additional topics are Decision Making and the role of Information and Communication Technology in organizational design and in Decision Making processes.

Organizational strategy in a changing global environment
Organizational design and technology

Decision Making, Knowledge Management and ICT (Information and Communication Technology).

In addition to the lectures during the course, space will be given to the analysis and discussion of cases developed by the students. Upon completion of the training course, experts in organizational planning working as leaders at the national and international level will be invited to testify.
Moreover, during the whole academic year, the individual reception service managed by the teachers is available, at times indicated on the web pages (without the need to set a specific appointment) and continuously updated.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists of a written test with open questions.
The questions are written to verify the level of knowledge of the topics concerning the design of the organizations matured by the students. At the same time, they are studied to test students' ability to interpret the main problems linked to macro and micro design of organizations.

The test is intended to ascertain:
- knowledge of the topics in the program, with particular reference to their application and methodological aspects;
- the ability to apply the logical schemes to the various organizational design problems presented;
- the depth and breadth of knowledge gained;
- the property of language;
- the ability to use the techniques and tools of the course.
The final evaluation, which takes into account any activities (case studies) carried out during the course, is expressed in 30ths.
Students who have taken the case study will receive from 2 to 4 points (in 30th) more, depending on the commitment dedicated to deepening the case.
